Source text - English Through an extract from the novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, by Mark Twain (1903, 30-33), we will attempt to show here how persuasive argumentation transforms conceptual meaning into intentional meaning, by means of ad hoc concepts, or concepts constructed pragmatically by the listener in the semasiological process of understanding an utterance.
Following argumentation theory1, we will construct a series of concept maps or networks in order to reconstruct how a statement conditions the appearance of the following statements. Our work will be based on the ostensive-inferential method, as well as on the principles of Cooperation and Relevance applied to illocutive and perlocutive speech acts.
