Finally, a significant client from France has returned to me. It's a multinational corporation specializing in facility management that has been operating across three continents since the 1950s. They have a financial audit scheduled for a week, specifically five business days of eight hours each, and I serve as their consecutive interpreter. The distinct advantage is that these are the same people who have been coming to me for years, but COVID-19 did its thing, and finally, my business slowly returning to the old ways. 1 user I am translating the third and final piece of a trilogy, a brief fictional novella set in the Parisian suburbs. One unique challenge this novella presents is the inclusion of French Verlan slang, like; “Il est relou ce mec” and “un truc de ouf”. Besides Verlan itself, which consists of reversing words, there are numerous other variations of urban French slang that have evolved into a fully-fledged dialect.

Silence and stillness. Hiding in plain sight. Active shooter situation at the workplace or production facility. "Fight or Flight" situations. Last resort defensive measures when forced into a fight. Avoiding to be seen by the shooter. Silence and stillness. Hiding in plain sight.
Active shooter situation in offices or at the production plant. Routines, choices to make depending on the situation, “out of sight”, “hide” and “fight” as a last resort. It is in fact saddening to translate. You go to the coffee machine and get bitten by a nine mil mosquitos. Charming. So happy that these killings have not migrated into Europe.
From English into Croatian 2728 words. "Common EHHS* Policy" of a multinational corporation operating in many countries on three continents. *EHHS stands for Environmental, Health, Safety and sustainability Policy.

Monthly bulletin of a Multinational. Special Edition. U.S. English into Croatian. The red coral diver must know the right spots to go diving. Once on location, he has to dive deep, around 80 meters and sometimes a "few meters more." He is armed only with a battery flashlight, like a tiny light balloon, like a very slow shooting star on an empty sky; deeper and deeper, he goes into the darkness. When he finally reaches his destination, he has some fifteen minutes left for practical work before returning to the surface with his precious cargo, which can last up to two and a half hours. Excerpt from the novel (working title): "Zlarin and its magical red corals" (Author: Anita Palada) (Translation: Sanjin Grandić) 1 user Translating a short novel describing the life of red coral divers on a tiny island Zlarin in the Adriatic Sea near the city of Šibenik from Croatian in English and French. 2 users Translating

Preparing myself to take the Hermes/Netflix test tomorrow English > Croatian. It came to me via Proz.com by an outsourcer who sent me a link for the test itself and a general guide for Croatian partners and is a preferred Netflix vendor the guide is available to everyone and it is impossible to pass the test without prior reading the Netflix's standards for subtitling. -> Here is the link for instructioins >>>https://partnerhelp.netflixstudios.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002790368-Croatian-Timed-Text-Style-Guide Translating from English into Croatian the User Guide and maintenance instructions for a portable personnel lift for industrial and building sites. Assembly guide, EU declarations and the legal side too,the contract itself with all the fine print. 7502 words plus diagrams, spreadsheets. Working with InDesign from Adobe Creative Cloud. I ll be done with it in a couple of hours and than pepare myslf for the Hermes/Netflix test an outsourcer send me via Proz.com (thx Proz.com-:) French to Croatian. Entire €800.000 contract, 3198 words, without the price breakdown and price revision formulas should circumstances or price of materials used for production change. Would like to be paid in percentage for this translation.-:) (edited) I am subtitling a short (12 minutes and change) documentary from French into Croatian. The subject is the correct assembly of a portable air conditioner suitable for tents and similar constructions. Technical; 30.000+ words; manuals/user guides/operating/ servicing/installing the facility/Security/Warranties/Liabilities/Conformity/ from French and English 50%-50%. Target language: Croatian. Exotic formats like "Indesign" from Adobe Creative Cloud, Publisher and DOCX. A stressing but interesting project. The deadline: June 21st. The client contacted me at first some three weeks ago, sent me files but failed to appear for these 21 days and now he is back with a much shorter time to translate. Though it is the Client who hesitated unless he finally sold some equipment and now is in need of a Croatian documentation and a Croatian user guide because these are very complex and sophisticated industrial high-tech solutions like hydraulic arms for towing cars, hoists and a lot more. The project is sensitive since the deadline is tight and I have to render the translation in formats they were given to me. 22 documents which add up to 250, pages but there are a lot of illustrations and instruction manuals with much less text to translate. It is going to be work&work for the next 36 days and I still keep to my day-job in a financial industry which provides me a stable income and a a peace of mind alongside. The excellent news for me is that I am going to work for my company from home due to the Corona situation and now they bought for every employee a nice new HP Elitebook with Core i7 so, now I wont waste 2 hours a day commuting and it will make this task ahead of me a lot easier.
(edited) Teaching French to 3 kids. It s a pleasant task to convey our specific knowledge. They are all doing very good, so I am happy. I do not charge not only for the social aspect but one always improves his own knowledge when teaching others. 1 user |
