Voglio raccontarvi tre cose su di me, tre hobby, tre passioni, tre progetti che, a prima vista, non hanno nulla a che fare con la traduzione. A prima vista.
I don’t want to repeat here the information that you can easily find on my profile, in my "Personal" window in this page or in my résumé, I will not write about the School for Translators and Interpreters, about my experience as a translator, about my fields of expertise or about my languages. I want to tell you three things about me, three hobbies, three passions, three projects that, at first sight, have nothing to do with translation. At first sight.
IL TANGO THE TANGO
Ballo il tango da un anno, giusto il tempo di imparare i passi base e di capire che per ballare ci vuole pazienza, impegno, creatività e fiducia nell’altra persona. Non vi suona familiare?
I started my tango classes one year ago. Now I can do the easy steps and I understood that in order to dance I need patience, commitment, creativity and trust in the other person. Doesn’t it hit home?
IL SIDECAR THE SIDECAR
L’estate del 2011 è stata fantastica. Ho fatto il giro d’Italia in Sidecar con il mio ragazzo e un nostro caro amico. I ragazzi sono partiti da Bologna e hanno fatto tutta la costa tirrenica, giù verso Firenze, Roma, Napoli fino a Catanzaro per poi risalire verso Bari, dove ci siamo incontrati (io tornavo da un’estate in Romania per migliorare il rumeno). E insieme abbiamo girato tutta la Puglia, fino a Santa Maria di Leuca, per poi fare rotta verso casa lungo tutta la costa adriatica. Un’esperienza bellissima, a tratti faticosa, a tratti pericolosa, a tratti esilarante; un mezzo e un tipo di viaggio che mi hanno ricordato che la precisione, l’organizzazione e lo spirito di squadra sono qualità importantissime. Non credete anche voi?
Summer 2011 has been great. I made the tour of Italy by Sidecar with my boyfriend and our best friend. The boys started the tour from Bologna, they covered the whole Tyrrhenian coast, Florence, Rome, Naples and finally Catanzaro, then up to Bari, where we met (I was in Romania improving Romanian). Together we visited the whole Puglia, down to Santa Maria di Leuca, and then back home through all the Adriatic coast. A wonderful experience, sometimes tiring, sometimes dangerous, sometimes very funny. The Sidecar and this type of tour reminded me that accuracy, organization and team spirit are very important qualities. Don’t you think?
LA MONGOLFIERA THE HOT AIR BALLOON
Dopo il Sidecar, un altro progetto molto ambizioso. Il nostro prossimo viaggio sarà nel pallone… almeno così speriamo! La ricerca di sponsor assomiglia molto a quella dei clienti: professionalità e cortesia al primo posto, oltre a spirito d’iniziativa e cura per ogni dettaglio. Una traduttrice… ad alta quota?
After the Sidecar, another very ambitious project. Our next tour will be by balloon… at least we hope so! Finding sponsors looks like finding clients: professionalism and kindness come first, but I also need to be enterprising and detail-oriented. A high-flying… translator?
