Report from  Thomas Groendal
We had the third Osaka Powwow here at Konohana public hall.

While the structure was informal, it proved a good opportunity to share our specialized areas of
knowledge, personal experiences and common challenges and aspirations. I think that all who came found the event informative, stimulating and enjoyable.

The after party continued our discussion about the different ways we could expand our clientele, and we also took the time to examine the different rewards and consequences of working as a freelance translator vs. working in-house.
We continued onto more philosophical areas such as connection between programming and language, and the fundamentally independent point of view that enables us to forge ahead as self-motivated individuals regardless of the whims of circumstance.

Presenters included:

Alex Farrell spoke about some of the practices that have helped him successfully establish himself.
Oki Mikito spoke about regular expressions and how they could help us in manipulating our documents.
Paul Makino talked about the experience of the in-house translator with reference to what it is clients experience/desire during their interactions with agencies, etc.

I would like to thank both our speakers and their dedicated and rambunctious listeners. I look forward to another gathering soon.
