Following the Immigration Terminology Seminar which was held by Miami Dade College, a group of us, 14 Prozians plus 15 guests, met at the Bijan's Restaurant, one of the historic homes of railroad builder Henry Flagler, by Miami's Riverwalk. It was a beautiful day with 80 degrees under partially clear skies.
Most of us took the Metromover train from the college to the restaurant admiring the views and the Miami skyline. The menu featured seafood sandwiches and salads appropriate for lunch.
Following a welcoming remark by the organizer and the distribution of a list of topics and ideas of interest to our profession to be considered in the future, all introduced themselves, their language pair(s) and specialty. Most attendees were experienced professionals and several were excited to meet other colleagues, they had previously been in contact or done business with, for the first time. We had a leisurely time exchanging thoughts, ideas and stories of the past.
After lunch, some went shopping while the rest went home to rest and prepare for the evening fiesta where twelve of us joined close to 900 revelers at the Lebanese Festival organized by the Lebanese Community in Miami. We enjoyed authentic ethnic foods and a show of folkloric and belly dancing till the early hours of the morning.
It was a productive and enjoyable get-together in a relaxed atmosphere. We agreed to stay in touch and plan more social events in the near future.
