            • سرزمين کم باران و مرتفعي است که ميزان رطوبت و باران آن براي رشد گياهان کافي نيست و از نظر کشاورزي و ايجاد چراگاه بي‌ارزش است. در اغلب اين سرزمين‌ها، صخره‌هايي که سر آن‌ها عمدتا بر اثر فرسايش عريان شده است ديده مي‌شوند ( فرهنگ محيط زيست، حسن دولت آبادي). به اين تعريف بايد افزود که بدبوم، بيشتر در پي اسفاده نامتناسب انسان از سرزميني که توان بازتوليد زياد ندارد پديد مي‌آيد. علت اين کمبود توان مي‌تواند بارندگي ناچيز، سست بودن لايه‌هاي زمين، شيب زياد و... باشد. بزرگ‌ترين تک عامل فرسوده ساختن سرزمين، ‌چراندن بيش از حد دام است که پوشش نگهدارنده خاک، يعني گياهان را از ميان مي‌برد. نشریه الکترونیکی جغرا - by Ryan Emami

            • A badlands (also badland) is a type of arid terrain where softer sedimentary rocks and clay-rich soils have been extensively eroded by wind and water. It can resemble malpaís, a terrain of volcanic rocks. Canyons, ravines, gullies, hoodoos and other such geological forms are common in badlands. They are often difficult to navigate by foot.
