- Desertificação é o fenômeno que corresponde à transformação de uma área em um deserto.
O termo desertificação tem sido muito utilizado para a perda da capacidade produtiva dos ecossistemas causada pela atividade antrópica. Devido às condições ambientais, as atividades econômicas desenvolvidas em uma região extrapolam a capacidade de suporte e de sustentabilidade. O processo é pouco perceptível pelas populacões locais. - يعتبر التصحر مشكلة عالمية تعانى منها العديد من البلدان في كافة أنحاء العالم. ويعرف علي أنه تناقص في قدرة الإنتاج البيولوجى للأرض أو تدهور خصوبة الأراضي المنتجة بالمعدل الذي يكسبها ظروف تشبه الأحوال المناخية الصحراوية. لذلك فإن التصحر يؤدى إلي انخفاض إنتاج الحياة النباتية، ولقد بلغ مجموع المساحات المتصحرة في العالم حوالى 46 مليون كيلومتر مربع يخص الوطن العربى منها حوالى 13 مليون كيلومتر مربع أى حوالى 28 % من جملة المناطق المتصحرة في العالم.
