Hârtia cretată este o variantă de hârtie "înnobilată", căreia i s-a aplicat unul sau mai multe straturi de pigmenţi şi aditivi. Aceştia formează o ***peliculă puţin permeabilă, care reţine cerneala*** la suprafaţa hârtiei. In acest fel culorile strălucesc mai viu şi imaginile au o claritate mai bună. Datorită acestor proprietăţi, hârtia cretată este cea mai folosită in industria tipografică.
