- Grupptänkande uppträder när strävan efter enighet och lojalitet blir starkare än förmågan att realistiskt analysera olika handlingsalternativ. De som ingår i gruppen känner sig osårbara och blir immuna för kritik. Varningar tas inte på allvar. Gruppen är så övertygad om sin egen moraliska överlägsenhet att den negligerar etiska och moraliska överväganden. Bilden av motståndaren blir karikerad och stereotyp. Avvikande uppfattningar stämplas som uttryck för illojalitet. Självcensur bidrar ytterligare till samstämmigheten. Självutnämnda grindvakter skyddar gruppen från information som kan störa enigheten.
