Il targeting comportamentale utilizza le informazioni riguardanti il comportamento dei visitatori mentre utilizzano Internet, come ad esempio le pagine che hanno visitato o le ricerche che hanno fatto, per selezionare quali annunci pubblicitari far vedere ad ogni singolo visitatore. I sostenitori di questa metodologia credono che questo li aiuti a condizionare maggiormente i visitatori con prodotti che li interessano maggiormente; in altre parole è visto come lo strumento più efficace per far pervenire: “la pubblicità giusta al momento giusto alla persona giusta”.
