- Sideloading is a term used in Internet culture, similar to "upload" and "download", but in reference to the process of transferring data between two local devices, in particular between a computer and a mobile device such as a cellphone, smartphone, PDA, or portable media player.
Sideloading typically refers to media file transfer to a mobile device via USB, Bluetooth or by writing directly to a memory card for insertion into the mobile device. Wikipedia

Im Mobilfunk-Jargon wird dieser Weg "Side-Loading" genannt, weil das Handy-Netz nach Ansicht der Branche den "Vordereingang" zum Telefon darstellt. Der "Nebeneingang" wird laut Dickson das Nutzerverhalten solange bestimmen, wie die Handy-Netzbetreiber auch am Datentransfer für mobile Downloads richtig verdienen wollen. Denn warum sollten die Nutzer überteuerte Datentarife bezahlen, wenn sie ihr Telefon schneller und kostenlos mittels des vertrauten USB-Kabels mit Musik bestücken können? Laut iSuppli werden schon 2010 so gut wie alle Handy-Modelle über einen USB-Anschluss verfügen.
