Un fenómeno asociado a la fractura de algunos polímeros termoplásticos es la microfisuración.
Las microfisuras constituyen una región tensionada asociada a fisuras, grietas, partículas de impureza y heterogeneidades moleculares. Normalmente esta región se propaga perpendicularmente al eje del esfuerzo de tracción. El espesor de una microfisura suele ser inferior a 5 micrones.
