Falámos já que importa em estudos analíticos classificar as nossas variáveis em três categorias: variáveis de exposição, de resposta e interferentes.
Há dois tipos de variáveis interferentes: as de confundimento e as modificadoras de efeito.
O confundimento pode surgir quando uma variável interferente (neste caso denominada de confundimento) distorce ficticiamente a associação entre a variável de exposição e de resposta, alterando-lhe a força ou mesmo o sentido.
