Como vimos atrás, só no século XX foi posta em evidência a etiologia multi-factorial das doenças crónicas, como o cancro, a diabetes, as doenças cardiovasculares etc, e a influência que neste tipo de doenças têm os factores ambientais e comportamentais e não apenas biológicos.
