- L’analepse ou retour en arrière est une figure de style. Elle correspond à un retour en arrière, au récit d'une action qui appartient au passé. Il consiste à raconter après-coup un événement. On peut également parler de flashback pour exprimer cette idée, mais le terme de flashback ne s'utilise qu'à propos de cinéma. L'analepse est aussi utilisée pour la navigation.

- Als Rückblende bezeichnet man bei Film- und TV-Produktionen sowie in der Literatur eine Erzähltechnik. Eine Rückblende nimmt den Zuschauer bzw. Leser mit zu einem Erzählstrang, der zeitlich vor dem vorangegangen Ereignis liegt. Rückblenden werden vor allem verwendet, um eine Geschichte nicht-linear zu erzählen.
Um in Filmproduktionen dem Zuschauer die Rückblende deutlich zu machen, wird diese oft optisch abgesetzt, durch die Verwendung von Schwarzweiß, eine andere Farbgebung, Änderung der Schärfe oder der Belichtung.
