Discussion

Giulia Gigliotti Feb 3, 2012:
I respectfully disagree with your definition of the term ‘refurbishment’ which the Oxford online dictionary defines - in relation to the verb – as ‘renovate and redecorate (something, especially a building): the premises have been completely refurbished in our corporate style’ http://oxforddictionaries.com/definition/refurbish. In any case, if you didn’t like the term refurbishment, I would have thought that ‘renovation’ rather than ‘renewal’ would have been more appropriate in the context of a property. I will not comment on the third translator’s offering, but will state again my surprise at your choice of ‘fund renewal’ given its grammatical and contextual incorrectness, regardless of any subsequent ‘manipulation’.
Elizabeth Hill Barsanti (X) (asker) Feb 3, 2012:
Dear Giulia,
You are obviously a language lover and perfectionist like myself. I was touched and amused by the trouble you took to dissect the term and write to me. Don't worry, I manipulated that term and used *renewal fund*, but felt I had to give some credit for the offering anyhow. I think renewal was more appropriate than refurbishment (which to my mind 'connotes' more to hard/soft furnishings) and rehabilitation, which according to me connotes to health matters. Cheers.

Refurbishment fund

I think that in this context 'refurbishment' is probably more apt:
