Arabic term

azwan

Arabic to English Social Sciences Genealogy
A cousin is thinking of naming his newborn baby boy Azwan and would like to know if this is an Arabic word and what it means. Also is it suitable name for a boy or is it a girl's name? Thank you.

Thanks gulser Yes, it's a very popular Malaysian name (I'm a Malaysian) and so far no one knows it's origin so perhaps it's just a name that originated from here. But then I found this at http://www.kingstonmosque.org.uk/Islam/Ramadhan_Days_21_25.h...

"When the Prophet (SAW) drank water he read this dua : Alhamdulillahillazi sakanahu AZWAN qur`athan birahmatihi walamyaj allahu minhan surajan bizunubihi. (All praise is to Allah, who gave us this sweet water to drink with His blessing and did not make it sour because of our sins)."

هذا ليس بالإسم العربي المعوف و الشائع

This is not a common Arabic name, I do not advice using it.
