from sentence:
Již 22. dubna 1990 na Velehradě papež Jan Pavel II. posvětil základní kámen s nápisem Sv. Josefe, starej se.
maybe somebody could help me make this sound nice...don't know if it has any precedence in the Church, or if it was a one-time utterance by the late great Pope John Paul II.
thanks!

Comment: "thanks very much to all......I feel fine with this choice...Joseph was the father of the Holy Family, the epitomy of the stable, protective father figure...thus this fits just fine. Good links Hannah...:) Here's one that's a little bit off the subject, but highly interesting and answered a question of mine:

St Joseph, pray for us
This is the usual construction. Lots and lots of google hits.

: This is what I thought of first, too. It's not a literal translation obviously, but it's definitely the standard formula, which I think is more important in this case.

Thanks! As a sometime practising Catholic, I always used to wonder at those long lists of saints, I think at the Easter vigil, each one followed by 'pray for us' ...

St. Joseph, fend for us
Starat se - it can be translated in many ways, but I believe that 'fending for' or 'taking care of' is the closest translation and 'fending for' sounds the best.
Discussion
Nápis byl určen patronovi města sv. Josefovi, aby se "postaral" o stavbu kostela. Ten nakonec po různých peripetiích byl postaven v roce 1997."
