Swimming pool assembly
The following is found in an instruction manual on assembling an above ground swimming pool:

layer of gravel
Vold is 'mound', 'bank' or 'embankment', but they all sound out of proportion in this context.

fringe
I would probably cook up something like >fringe of gravel<, approximating the Danish >rand<. That is somewhat smaller than >vold< which I agree is a bit out of proportion here.
