"heart wires" = temporary pacing leads

Special leads
Temporary pacing leads, also called "heart wires", are inserted into the veins and passed transvenously to the heart, and are connected to an external pacemaker. Heart wires do not require precise positioning, since the external pacemaker can transmit higher energy output pulses without depleting its service life.
Thus heart wires do not need to be carefully positioned in the heart to gain maximum electrical advantage. A temporary pacemaker is just what it sounds like: it is used for a very short duration, typically during a hospital stay. The heart wires are completely removed before the patient is discharged.

Since the mid-1970s, the use of routine myocardial electrodes has been reported. It is, therefore, a reliable and safe method of diagnosing and then treating a post-operative heart rhythm disorder. The heart rate can be increased by electric stimulation from cardiac wires which in turn can improve overall heart performance.
These heart wires are also known as temporary myocardial pacing leads, myocardial electrodes, or even epicardial electrodes.
Heart wires are mainly used for open heart surgery and postoperative cardiac arrhythmias. Various methods exist for anchoring a heart wire to the heart. When the stimulation is stopped, the wires can be separated simply by pulling and disconnecting them from the heart. To perform an ECG, patient cables that are attached to electrodes are needed. These patient cables often have different colors in order to determine which cable must be connected to which electrode. If you are in need of high quality translations of your medical texts, we are the right partner for you. We will gladly convince you in a personal discussion.
Precautionary measures
Heart wires may only be attached by trained physicians who have accumulated experience in this area. Stimulation with heart wires and ECG monitoring should be performed simultaneously. In the case of temporary myocardial electrodes, they should not be in the patient’s body for more than thirty days. However, there are also heart wires which are intended for one-time use.

Connection Variants
Temporary catheters with 2-mm plugs or heart wire with 2-mm adapter
-->
Aansluitvarianten
Tijdelijke katheter met 2-mm-stekkers of hartdraad met 2-mm-adapter
http://www.biotronikusa.com/global/assets/product_manuals/ex...
"Unipolar and bipolar, temporary endocardial pacing leads and temporary epicardial heart wires were also developed for implantation of the distal electrode(s) thereof in contact with the endocardium or sutured through the epicardium of the hearts of hospitalized patients. The lead body size of these temporary pacing leads and heart wires has typically been smaller than that of permanent cardiac leads because of the absence of an internal wire coil lumen for receiving a stylet wire. Still, in the case of bipolar temporary pacing leads and heart wires, either a lead connector pin and ring set are employed providing a pair of lead connector pins."
http://www.google.com/patents/US20040230267
elektroden), kleding, verbandmateriaal, huidpleisters etc.

: 'bedrading' kan echt niet. See below.
