Proposed translations

nous sommes en avance sur notre temps = we are the first to have seen the light, others will follow, same idea as "being ahead of the consensus (that will come soon)"
as for
"we ... find ourselves 'living in interesting times"
It's about the kind of "interesting times" from the curse of wishing someone to find themselves "living in interesting times" - as in: you will never get bored as problems will keep pilling up / you'll have a lot of "interesting" problems to solve ...
"... because we are ahead of the consensus on this, we indeed find ourselves 'living in interesting times'"
means roughly:
"because other people still don't agree with us they keep making our life difficult"
Personally they sound to me like self-proclaimed prophets, but that's what they say - their ideas are "the consensus that will come soon".

It's a well known routine that every new idea gets first dismissed and ridiculed, before being accepted as "evident truth" - some of them, not all.
Notice the "ahead of the consensus on this", which means their ideas are "not yet accepted, but will soon be" (at least that's what they think)
