oil spill response
To manage a small shoreline impact in the event of an oil spill at an offshore location, the package includes a combination of shore skirt boom, shore sealing boom and a Duplex 15 skimmer system. Each section of boom is stored within a specifically coloured boom bag to aid identification when responding to a spill.

However, for certain specific sites (slipways, embankments or slightly sloping access routes), shore-sealing booms (filled with air and water) may be preferable as they form a watertight seal between the water and the embankment, as [...] cedre.frcedre.fr Cependant, pour des sites particuliers (cales de mise à l'eau, berges ou accès en pente douce), des barrages échouables (gonflés à l'eau et à l'air) peuvent être préférés car ils apportent une bonne étanchéité à l'interface eau - berge et s'adaptent aux marées. cedre.frcedre.fr

Le terme officiel est "barrage flottant de confinement des nappes d'hydrocarbures", car il s'agit de restreindre la pollution par le déversement de pétrole et empêcher la marée noire de s'infiltrer loin à l'intérieur des terres. Cf. le site "oilspillsolutions.org" qui utilise les termes "containment booms" : Containment booms are used to accumulate the oil and prevent it from spreading, facilitating its removal. A well deployed boom is the first step towards the success of an operation. The installation and the maintenance of booms require well trained personnel.
