English term

Loss of hire of a ship

English to German Bus/Financial Insurance Seeversicherung
Loss of engagements refers to loss of use of a ship or LOSS OF HIRE OF A SHIP. The 'collision liability' clause in a hull & machinery policy covers, subject to limits expressed therein, the assured's liability for loss of engagements suffered by the other vessel. But the policy does not cover loss of engagements suffered by the insured vessel. The hull assured's insurable interest in loss of engagements suffered by his own ship may be insured by P & I club. (Robert Brown, Witherby's Encyclopaedic Dictionary of Marine Insurance, 2005, p. 476)

agree Adrian MM. : I used to work many years in a Central London office building shared with City shipbrokers who talked about their ships going 'on and off hire' as well as 'earning hire' https://pacificmaritimelawyers.com.au/loss-hire-insurance/
