En un aparejo (o polipasto) formado por varias poleas, una de ellas, digamos la “primera” es fija y desde ella el cable se enrolla al tambor accionado por el motor elevador. Ese tambor es cilíndrico, y en la medida en que el cable se enrolla de uno al otro extremo del tambor, va variando su ángulo (FLEET ANGLE, o FLARE ANGLE) con respecto a la polea. Si el ángulo es muy grande, pede causar que el cable se “descarrile” dentro de la polea, o que se enrolle mal sobre el tambor. Pera eso se usa una polea que se puede deslizar sobre su eje (que es paralelo al eje del tambor). En inglés ese tipo de polea se llama : JOCKEY SHEAVE.

'Sheave' is the generic name of the actual wheel-shaped object with a grooved rim used in pulleys or cranes. 'Jockey' refers to the "purpose" of this particular kind of sheave.
