peterinmadrid (asker) Jan 24, 2015:
I already know that VOD means Video on Demand. What I want to know is what specifically "VOD à l'acte" means. Here is some more context:

pay-as-you-go VoD

I don't know if this is the accepted term, but many things that involve 'à l'acte' are referred to as 'pay-as-you-go' in EN.

It means, of course, where you pay to watch a film or some other TV programme, for example on an individual basis, rather than its being part of a package deal.

Orange has this 'paiement à l'acte' on my Internet subscription, so I can pay for various other services besides VoD, which simply get added to my Internet bill
Peer comment(s):

agree Charles Davis : Also known as pay-per-view VOD aka transactional VOD // No; I'll just leave this; the term PAYG VoD is a valid answer; mine are alternatives. // If, as I trust, your answer is chosen, stick PPV in the glossary entry. In my book you got this first.

Thanks, Charles! Yes, I think you have the right term with P-P-V or transactional; why don't you submit those as an answer?
agree Yvonne Gallagher : PPV VOD probably most common way of saying this

Thanks, G! Yes indeed, that's why I wanted Charles to submit his answer.

VOD (Video on Demand)

I think this is the same term being used here as we use in English.

"Video on demand (VOD) or audio and video on demand (AVOD) are systems which allow users to select and watch/listen to video or audio content when they choose to, rather than having to watch at a specific broadcast time. "
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_on_demand

Reference:

Pay-per-view (PPV), Pay-as-you-go (PAYG), Transactional

These terms are all synonymous and all equally valid; PPV is probably the most common, but PAYG is quite widely used too.

Tony is right that this is what it means:

"Pay Per View VOD – (May be known as Transactional VOD) - This is the opposite of Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD). Here the customer pays a single price for each individual VOD program, or set of programs viewed. With SVOD, typically the subscriber pays a set amount (perhaps monthly) for a number of VOD programs."
http://www.itvdictionary.com/definitions/pay_per_view_vod_ma...

"VoD networks usually operate on one of three business models: PTV [Pay TV], VoD or pay-per-view (PPV, sometimes referred to as pay-as-you-go—meaning viewers pay for each programme before they watch—and popular for live sports events and films), or a mixture of these."
