German term

Null bon (Frei-Verkauf)

German to English Other Computers: Software PoS Systems
Once more from specs for a PoS system:

"Bon-Funktionen
Bon-Recover bei Stromausfall
Sofortiges Zeilen-Storno
Null-Bon (Frei-Verkauf)
Storno über Bon-Nummer
Bon-Rückstellung
Bon-Storno: nur in 1 Abrechnungsperiode, Eingabe Erklärungsgrund, Unterschriftsfeld
Bon-Abbruch: Eingabe Erklärungsgrund, Unterschriftsfeld"

Does null bon just mean making a sale without issuing a receipt?
Proposed translations (English)

4 receiptless sale

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Jun 18, 2004:
I think Richard may be right here, I came across a couple of references doing Google searches which seemed to be talking about a receipt for zero money - do we have a name for this, and when and why would such a receipt be produced?

no-sale receipt

I'm old enough to remember mechanical cash registers, and they all had a 'no sale' key that caused a flag with the same text to be displayed in the window. It was used for operations such as opening the cash drawer to make change, etc., without making an actual sale.

That might fit here; as to your question why this would be necessary, in principle it's desirable to record all transactions performed using the POS terminal.

FWIW, "no-sale receipt" + "cash register" gets 26 google hits, such as:

...Summary of Features: Speedy operation, just like a cash register! ... Tender keys Refund, Discount, Item Void, SubTotal Void, No Sale Receipt On/Off ...

agree Richard Benham : I'm old enough to remember that too--but I try to keep it quiet.

receiptless sale

It is a sale being done without a receipt. Kassenbon means receipt
Peer comment(s):

neutral Richard Benham : Hmmm. Somewhat skeptical; Seems very un-German. Wouldn't a receipt for zero money be more likely? (I didn't say you were wrong; I just suggested an alternative. Either way it seems a little unclear.)

Maybe... I'm not really sure.
