German term

Trinkwasser

German to English Other Linguistics Plumbing systems
This may appear too simple on the surface, but it's not.

In USA what is the most commonly recognised everyday term for Trinkwasser:

Drinking water? (Water specifically classed for drinking)
or
Potable water? (Any water that can be drunk?)

I am UK native, and for me the term is drinking water- I can't see that it's going to be sooooo different in US.

Any advice from native US folks much appreciated.

It's a good point
Non-ProZ.com Sep 25, 2004:
Kathy- it's a marketing catalog(ue) for a pipe system suitable for both general plumbing and "Trinkwasser". I'm doing the Korrektur, and I don't see the need to translate Trinkwater as Potable water in a general sales leaflet. I can't see someone pouring themselves a glass of potable water, surely.

Besides \"I have to go to the pot (pottie for kids)\" after drinking too much water with ice, hence the term potable is not very apetizing. :-)

For marketing purposes, I'd go with that (personally bearing in mind the health guidelines once given by the late W.C. Fields).
