German term

brezeln

German to English Tech/Engineering Transport / Transportation / Shipping Tyre transport by road
This term refers to a method of loading tyres onto an articulated semi-trailer.

Judging from its origin, it appears to refer suspending tyres on bars much in the way that Pretzels are hung on sticks in a bakery.

"... ein sicherer Transport wird bei gestapelter, gebrezelter und gestufter Reifenbeladung mit einer maximalen Nutzlast von 18 Tonnen gewährleistet"

I'm leaning towards "threaded" but I'm not at all sure.

The text is a Press Release announcing a new type of trailer variant for transporting tyres.

Anyone got any better suggestions?

TIA

Jaime

Thanks Susanne. Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words (and at 12 cent a word, that's not bad). :)

Now Nicole Don't remind me about Currywursts. They deserve suffering dismemberment. Anything but ingestion. :-Q
Nicole Schnell Nov 30, 2012:
Hi Jaime I thought so. Look what you are doing to the poor Currywursts - they are served drawn and quartered and dismembered. :-)
Jaime Hyland (asker) Nov 30, 2012:
Hi Nicole It must be some sort of Berlin heresy! They hang them up on stick three or four abreast on something like what I used to call a cup tree. :)
Susanne Schiewe Nov 30, 2012:
This is what "Brezeln" looks like. I prefer Bavarian Bretzels :-)

To be honest I grew up in Germany during my first 35 years, I have no problem to eat myself to death on Bretzels, - however, I yet have to witness a single delicious poor Bretzel hanging on a stick...

laced stacking arrangement

two images of tyre stacking arrangements.
The second image shows a pile of tyres in a 'laced' arrangement. This involves stacking rows of tyres so that one end of the tyre is placed on the end of the previous tyre, creating a sawtooth shape. Each row's 'sawtooth' runs in the opposite direction to the previous row, so that the rows are interlaced. The pile is stacked within a container.

A laced stack of tires is the conventional shipping method to load the maximum amount of tires into a box truck or container. A truck load of laced tires is also more stable than if the tires were carried in stacks. Lacing works best with tires of the same or similar sizes. With practice, the person stacking the tires can adjust the lacing pattern to best suit the tire and container sizes.
