Dave Bindon Feb 20, 2010:
δουλεία Could you also say if the word «δουλεία» has been used before «δουλειούχος» is used? If it has, then you should probably use Nick's translation rather than mine.
Ivi Rocou Feb 20, 2010:
δουλεία Good evening. Could you give the actual phrase - 'δουλεία' could be 'easement', 'right of way' etc. depending on the context.

dominant estate

I agree with Nick Lingris that "easement" seems to be the correct translation of δουλεία in property law "II. (νομ.) εμπράγματο δικαίωμα με το οποίο μπορεί κάποιος να χρησιμοποιήσει, υπό ορισμένους όρους, ξένη ιδιοκτησία που βρίσκεται σε επαφή με τη δική του: ~ οδού / φωτός" (Τριανταφυλλίδης).

In that case, "easement holder" is, in my opinion, a completely valid translation of δουλειούχος. However, it has 21,100 Google hits, compared to the synonym "dominant estate" which has 37,700 hits. Only a small difference, so I'll put my confidence level at the same as Nick's, and let our colleagues decide!

"dominant tenement" is another synonym, but has fewer Google hits than the other two.
