Α/Αστ=Αρχιαστυφύλαξ=senior police constable Ευχαριστώ Αγγελική για τη διόρθωση. Δυστυχώς δύσκολο να διορθώσω το λάθος τώρα μετά τόσο καιρό. Φέρω βέβαια ευθύνη γιατί δεν το έψαξα όπως εσύ, αλλά (χωρίς να θέλω να δικαιολογηθώ) υπό την πίεση του χρόνου παράδοσης η ζημιά έγινε. Mea culpa. Πάντως σε ευχαριστώ και καλώς ο Peter το διόρθωσε για τους επόμενους. Και πάλι ευχαριστώ.

Angeliki: Firstly, my comment about Kudoz points was not addressed to you or to anyone in particular. It was addressed to anyone who might at any time consider that I had earned Kudoz points that I had not deserved. Also, it is indeed a pity that you had not provided your input in August, because, if you had, Stamatios would have submitted a more accurate translation to his client. I am sorry if the comment offended you in any way. This had not been my intention. That comment had not been addressed to you, either. It had simply stated a simple matter of fact. I would have thought that you ought to have been flattered by my previous discussion entry, not annoyed. The discussion entry confirmed that you were correct and that both Transphy and I had been mistaken. I therefore find it hard to understand why you objected to it.

Let's clarify a few points! 1) The Wikipedia link was provided in reply to transphy's claim that Αρχιαστυφύλακας is the same as Αρχηγός Αστυνομίας!
2) The point of posting the answer here was to help the people who will be searching for the term in the future and will be coming across an incorrect answer. So, with all due respect, Peter, for me is about getting to the truth. I'm not interested in any Kudoz points! I am more interested in preventing the dissemination of the incorrect answer that would lead more people to making a mistake in the future. If I had had this information in August, I would have happily shared it with everyone. I honestly fail to see the point in your last comment: "It is a pity that Angeliki did not provide her input at the time that Stamatios had asked his question. Had she done so, it would have prevented him from making a mistake."

Ο Αρχιαστυφύλακας δεν έχει καμία σχέση με τον Αρχηγό της Αστυνομίας. Πρόκειται για αρκετά χαμηλό βαθμό, ενώ ο Αρχηγός της Αστυνομίας είναι ο υψηλότερος. Αρχιαστυφύλακας είναι Senior Police Constable. Που ακούστηκε ο Αρχηγός της Αστυνομίας να παίρνει καταθέσεις;;;

O Αρχιαστυφύκακας στη Κύπρο λέγεται 'Αρχηγος Αστυνομίας'!!!!
Α/Αστ= Αρχηγός Αστυνομίας=** Chief of Police** (Police Chief). Είναι ο Αρχηγός της Αστυνομίας Κυπρου και ΟΧΙ 'Chief Superintendent' και χειρότερα 'Police Major'

Αρχιαστυφύλακας Σε περίπτωση που αναρωτιέστε ακόμη, σήμερα έκανα μια μετάφραση κι έπεσα πάνω σε Α/Αστ. Βρήκα στο Proz την απάντηση που επιλέχθηκε εδώ. Ωστόσο, μου φάνηκε υπερβολικό...έως αδύνατο ο Chielf Superintendent να παίρνει καταθέσεις. Γι'αυτό πήρα κατευθείαν τηλέφωνο το Τμήμα Ανίχνευσης Εγκλημάτων (ΤΑΕ) στη Λάρνακα και μου απάντησαν ότι πρόκειται για Αρχιαστυφύλακα.

Και εγώ έχω στείλει e-mail στις αστυνομίες της Κύπρου και της Ελλάδας ζητώντας επιβεβαίωση ή διευκρίνιση σχετικά με την έννοια του αρκτικόλεξου Α/Αστ. Θα σας ενημερώσω για την απαντήσεις που λαμβάνω.

Δεν ξέρω αν αποφάσισες γι' αυτό, να σου πω, όμως, έχω στείλει ερώτηση στο Γραφείο Εξυπηρέτησης του Πολίτη της Αστυνομίας Κύπρου να μας το ξεδιαλύνουν. Ίσως σήμερα να έχω απάντηση.

Αν το όνομα που ακολουθεί το Α/Αστ είναι Παπαγεωργίου τότε το Α/Αστ= Αρχηγός Αστυνομίας= Chief of Police (Police Chief). Είναι ο Αρχηγός της Αστυνομίας Κυπρου.
