Portuguese term (edited): Maria-Mole de c�co queimado

This is if you're looking at a sweet. "Marshmallow" seems to be a conventional translation (http://www.proz.com/?sp=h&id=458310) but it's a homemade recipe and not the commercial puffed sweet that many of us think of. It's really just a coconut gelatine, and a comparable recipe is found in many countries/cultures around the world. But "marshmallow" seems to be a common rendering.

While one finds côco queimado as "burnt coconut" (even on a site selling the packaged mix for this confection), "toasted coconut" is more conventional and appetizing. which I suppose also could be served with toasted coconut (as is shrimp) but then the recipe would not be "de" côco queimado.

I don\'t think it\'s necessary to say that the dessert is \"covered\" in toasted coconut, but if you prefer to add the word, it\'s OK. The main difference here with the other answer, apart from offering some alternatives to \"marshmallow\" is the use of the word \"toasted\".

:-) I\'ve just seen that there are also plenty of Google entries for \"coconut jello\": http://www.google.com/search?num=30&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&as_qd... though I wouldn\'t suggest this one so much because \"jello\" is an appropriation of a brand name.
