This is in a description on how to save radio stations as presets on a vehicle radio:
Pressionar e manter pressionado o botão pré-configurado desejado (1–6). Haverá um ***atalho*** quando a estação for armazenada. Quando o áudio voltar o processo é finalizado.
Because it is talking about the process of creating/configuring the preset buttons, I do not think it is using atalho in the sense of shortcut/hot key--it doesn't make sense to then say "quando o áudio voltar..." . It seems to be talking about the audio cue that the station has been saved--I've had radios where this is a beep, and radios where the audio "cuts out"/silences/mutes for a second when you've held the button down long enough to save the station to the preset button. I want to make sure that something like "mute" (a "skip" in the audio maybe?) is a theoretically possible translation for atalho. Just thinking out loud here--any input appreciated.

Comment: "ah, a back formation from "short cut(out)"...that makes sense."

short silence
When I do this on my car, when I want to save a certain frequency to a specific button, the station goes silent for a second or two. Hope it helps

: Couldn't it be simply "short cut"?

A short cut (two separate words) in sound, yes, but shortcut could be confusing. But perhaps the original was written in Englisg and "Short cut" was improperly translated as 'atalho'. You never know....

shortcut
I think it's merely poorly written (thought out)
Haverá um atalho quando a estação for armazenada.
>>
When the station is stored you will then have a shortcut.

Storing Radio Station Presets
To set preset radio stations:
1. Press the power/volume knob to
turn the system on.
2. Press SRCE and select the
desired band (AM, FM1, FM2,
XM1, or XM2 (if equipped)).
3. UserOSEEKqto tune to
the desired station.
4. Press and hold one of the six
preset screen buttons, at the
bottom of the screen, until a
beep is heard or the station is
displayed on the selected preset
button.
5. Repeat the steps for each
preset.
See “Preset Station Menu” under
AM-FM Radio on page 13 for more
information.

In any event, it seems 'preset' is a more useful word, not 'shortcut'.
