I don't think the fact that the leather used for this type of safety glove is produced from scraps is ever really mentioned in English descriptions of safety gloves. It certainly doesn't seem to be in any of the many sites I've looked at. Whereas the use of the word "raspa" for leather safety gloves is common in Portuguese.
