How can I translate "mono" into English for this context please?

ellos juegan con el look de este deporte para trasladarlo a la colección destacando los tejidos imitando la pintura de los coches o las cremalleras llamativas propias de los monos de competición

Eileen Brophy (asker) Jun 22, 2017:
Looking at images on Google, I could only find clothes for women....
Eileen Brophy (asker) Jun 22, 2017:
Jo Hance It is for a fashion designing company (which name I can't disclose), so it could be for both men and women.
Jo Hance Jun 22, 2017:
overalls (plural in English) - jumpsuit, a bit more "fashion"/"girly" - is it for men or women? Might be worth asking the question of the client...
Eileen Brophy (asker) Jun 22, 2017:
overall? no specific terminology for car and motor cycle racers?
Jairo Payan Jun 22, 2017:
Mono es el mismo overol para que sepas

racing suit

Confirmation of the sport would help, but in F1 racing they are suits (or overalls)

The first fire-retardant racing suit was manufactured by the Indianapolis company J.B. Hinchman over 80 years ago. Conceptually, the suit has changed little over those eight decades. The idea is still to provide protection from fire. However, today's suits bear little resemblance to their early counterparts. High-tech materials, proprietary stitching patterns, and fashionable designs not only set you apart in the winner's circle, but also save your life on the track.

agree Charles Davis : Or race suit (F1 or motorcycle racing). Not overalls. Nor jumpsuit.

one-piece racing suit

Lowish confidence because you seem to be talking fashion, whereas the "real thing" is all about safety - and the sponsors, of course.

For bikes and sidecars (the latter is what I was desperately hanging onto in my misspent youth), the best term is "racing leathers". There's really no need to specify "one-piece" - nobody would ever race with the risk of a bare midriff.

For cars (been there too), the term is "racing suit" or, if you don't feel the need to talk it up, "racing overalls". Again, they wouldn't be anything but one-piece.

"Racing suit" will actually do for either - made of leather for bikers and special fire-retardant Nomex material for drivers.

But for fashion, who knows what they'd call them?

Or jumpsuit, like racing drivers wear.

@Charles: Check out the google image results for "racing overalls" if you seriously don't think it's a valid suggestion.
Note from asker:
Exactly, neilmac, thank you very much

agree Jo Hance : Yes, I had one too - oh, Eighties fashion, hey! Agree, overalls = images of grease and oil in my mind!

Not so "girly"! I was wearing a red jumpsuit in the 80s, and so was Sting, among others
agree Robert Forstag : Probably "jumpsuit" or "suit" would be better than "overalls" (which, in English, conjure images of an entirely different article of clothing).

Google images for "racing overalls" shows mostly racing driver jumpsuits...
