This appears in a clinical trial document in reference to pharmacokinetic studies on brexpiprazole , does it mean 'double blind'?

Discussion

Louise Etheridge (asker) Jan 15, 2013:
Many thanks to everyone for your contributions to this. Yes, 'unlabelled' and 'dual-labelled' certainly seem to fit the context.
Yes! I think Biomed Sci has hit the nail on the head. Post it as a response, perhaps?
liz askew Jan 15, 2013:
Thank you Biomed Sci. I was very sceptical about "branded":) My findings showed "unlabelled" = no marcado. Cheers!
Biomed Sci Jan 15, 2013:
Or "dual-labeled" The metabolism and disposition of dual 14C-labeled peliglitazar...
Biomed Sci Jan 15, 2013:
Another e.g. The subjects initially received either a single oral or intravenous (i.v.) dose of 1 mg of [14C]tesaglitazar. After a washout period, they received 1 mg of nonlabeled tesaglitazar via the alternative administration route
Biomed Sci Jan 15, 2013:
e.g. Alosetron is extensively metabolized in humans. The biological activity of the metabolites is unknown. A mass balance study was performed utilizing an orally administered dose of unlabeled and 14C-labeled alosetron
Biomed Sci Jan 15, 2013:
Unlabelled and double labelled Perhaps it refers to unlabelled and carbon-14 double-labelled
brexpiprazole
liz askew Jan 15, 2013:
Hi
You need to ask the client about this one as I can find no information about the use of these phrases in relation to the drug in question.
Louise Etheridge (asker) Jan 14, 2013:
I've just had another thought on this. Could it be that 'no marcado' indeed means 'generic' and 'doble marcación' means double-brand/dual brand? Apparently it is quite common for meds to be marketed under two brands these days... Any thoughts? Many thanks
Louise Etheridge (asker) Jan 14, 2013:
Many thanks Taña. It's interesting that the article you posted mentions the word 'generic' as it had occured to me that that could be the context, 'generic' as in 'non-branded'. Well that gives me some more information to ponder...

Louise Etheridge (asker) Jan 14, 2013:
Here is the sentence in question:
"Los estudios de farmacocinética del brexpiprazol se realizaron usando brexpiprazol no marcado y 14Cbrexpiprazol con doble marcación...

I thought 'no marcado' could mean blind therefore 'doble marcación' double blind, but I really can't seem to find any information to corroborate this.

Many thanks, Louise
liz askew Jan 14, 2013:
Yes, kindly provide at least two sentences of Spanish context.
Agreed An accurate answer will be nearly impossible without additional context.
In a pharmacokinetic study this is probably "double staining" (an immunohistochemisry technique) but that's just a guess.
Yvette Neisser Moreno Jan 14, 2013:
Could you please provide more context, at least the whole sentence?
