Where the degree is obtained from an approved Pontifical University - the Wikipedia list shows many of them - the degree would be called a pontifical degree e.g. a degree from a Catholic university recognised by the Holy See. While some would give a B.Th. or Th.B. others would call the 4-year course a Licentiate in Theology, a L.Th. or Th.L.

Discussion
For many years Maryvale Institute has been an affiliated college of the Theological Faculty of the Pontifical University, Maynooth, Dublin; with the University validating two of Maryvale's programmes: the MA (Theology) and the BA (Divinity). In 2009/10 the Institute will be negotiating a new validation for the BA Divinity programme linked to the Pontifical Theology Faculty (Faculté Nôtre Dame) of the École Cathédrale in Paris. This would lead to the award of a Pontifical B.Div. Degree recognised both by the Church and, under the Bologna Agreement, by all the member states of the European Union. News of progress of this validation process and the impact of the new validation will be shared with students as and when appropriate.
