Spanish term

hacer jaculatorias

Spanish to English Art/Literary Religion
Como signo de gratitud, Teresa comenzó a **hacer jaculatorias.**

This is from an account of a woman's visions of the Virgin Mary. Mary "healed" this woman's burnt foot. This is the sentence that follows.

RAE defines "jaculatoria" as an "Oración breve y fervorosa". But I'm looking for an equivalent in English Catholic terminology. I was thinking of "devotions" but I am not sure if that would be the same.

ejaculations

Believe it or not - this is the technical term - we used to use it when I was a child at convent school. However, nowadays, you might prefer the alternative "aspirations"!
Example sentence:

An ejaculation, sometimes also called an aspiration, is a short prayer meant to be memorized and repeated throughout the day

Note from asker:
Thank you, this is what I was looking for - I knew there was an English word with the same Latin root but I couldn't think of it.

neutral JaneTranslates : To Deborah Lockett: According to Merriam Webster Unabridged online, there is no such word as "jaculatory" in English. There is, however, "ejaculatory," and "ejaculatory prayers" is given as an example. With that change, I fully support Deb's suggestion.

You are right that "jaculatory" is not in the dictionaries now - it's a very old word (see this from the year 1683 http://puffin.creighton.edu/jesuit/relations/relations_63.ht... and is now only in technical use. As you say, ejaculatory is equivalent now.
agree David Ronder : But what would the verb be? Make? Do? Utter? Emit??

(they are often silent, internal) repeat - say - pray - breathe - make - utter (only if they are aloud)
