You need an economist to translate economics papers.
You need a banker to translate research reports.
You need a journalist to translate feature articles.
Lucky you, you just found all three of them in a single spot!
I am a high-profile German-language journalist with more than a decade of experience in financial and business reporting; my last employment was editor-in-chief of a US-German magazine with a circulation of about 50'000. Also, I have extensive hands-on experience in direct-access trading stocks and more exotic instruments. I graduated from the University of Cologne with a Master (German „Diplom“) in economics. In January 2010 I passed the IoL DipTrans exam with a „distinction“ grade in business.
My philosophy: Every translation really has to be more of a transcreation, meaning that there should be no signs that the German text has its roots in a foreign language at all – I like to think of translating as writing minus (most of) the research. I'm convinced this can only be achieved by a person who really knows the subject matter well. As a consequence, I never accept a job before I have seen the full text to be translated, so please send it along when you're contacting me. If I don't feel suited for it, I'll let you honestly (and quickly) know.
My services: Apart from translations/transcreations I am offering end-to-end production of layouted documents in Indesign or QuarkXPress (and pretty much any other DTP software if you provide it). So you can send me an English .indd or .qxd file, and you'll get back the same document with the same number of pages in German, including all headlines and captions and edited-to-fit; revising by a second translator and proofreading by a specialised professional can be arranged for as well.
My interests: Further to economics and finance, I am an avid reader of English literature – just like in journalism, there seems to be so much more interesting material in the Anglo-Saxon world. I just once got to translate a piece of fiction (science-fiction, actually – The Distant Sound of Engines by Algis Budrys), and I would love to do more of this as well.
Maybe you never experienced this, but it *is* possible to buy a translation that can confidently be published right away and that will be perceived as a well-written and original German text by its readers. So why not do your German-speaking customers and thus yourself a favor and start working with me?
