Studies: Studies of Italian and English languages in Finland (Universities of Jyväskylä and Turku) and in Italy (University of l'Aquila). A degree in Modern languages and cultures studying English, Italian and German (Dr.ssa in Lingue e culture moderne). Advanced courses on literary, medical and legal translation at Turku University.

Experience: I have been working as a part-time or full-time translator since 2004. In 2010 I started working as a full-time freelancer. Previously I worked as an in-house translator and acquired professional experience in the project management sector. I was in charge of transnational communications and helped develop and coordinate EU-financed projects related to training, culture, health care and social sector. As a freelance translator I have gained considerable experience in translating Life Sciences texts. I am also proficient in the humanities (I studied music pedagogy, art history, and languages for my first university degree), and I have wide-ranging experience in transcreation and in marketing translations.

Life Sciences & medicine: I studied medical and legal translation at Turku University, and I have participated in training courses for medical translators organized by SKTL since 2010 (the first year they were held). I have over 10 years of experience in translating Life Sciences texts: clinical research documents (e.g., ICFs, RMP summaries, correspondence with authorities); pharmacological texts (PILs, SmPCs, Labeling etc.); medical device texts (e.g., IFUs, UIs and Field Safety Notices); scientific articles; training materials for physicians; website content for pharma companies and medical device manufacturers etc. My work encompasses EMA templates, MedDra terminology, EDQM’s Standard Terms and all the recommendations published by FIMEA and TUKIJA. I have experience in translating texts typically utilized by end clients like Pfizer, Bayer, Boston Scientific, Biomet Trauma, Johnson & Johnson International, Biosense Webster, Bristol Myers Squibb, Orion and many more. I am familiar with most fields of specialization from cardiology and gastroenterology, to oncology, orthopedics and pharmaceutical medicine. I also translate texts related to veterinary medicine. In addition to translating and editing Life Sciences texts, I perform LQAs and third party reviews.

Other: Life Sciences is not my only field of specialization. I also handle corporate and technical translations. Furthermore, even though I am a meticulous technical and Life Sciences translator, I also am skilled in creative translation, transcreation and copywriting. For instance, I translate TV ads, do transcreation and work in the marketing field (for end clients like Coca-Cola, Rolex, Colgate, Dyson, Johnson & Johnson brands etc.). For many years, I created SEO content for certain international travel-related websites. I also am proficient in journalistic translation. For example, in 2020 and 2021 I was included in the translation/transcreation team of Maailma 2020 and Maailma 2021, respectively. These publications are the result of collaboration between Helsingin Sanomat and The Economist (the publisher of The World in 2020 and The World in 2021 in English).

Finally, I have wide experience in translating children’s literature and non-fiction literature. In 2010, I was awarded a grant to translate a book written by Alberto Angela that combines science and fiction. Päivä antiikin Roomassa was published in Finland in 2011. Subsequently, I translated two other books of the same series related to archeology and ancient Rome (Rakkautta ja intohimoa antiikin Roomassa in 2014 and Rooman valtakunta in 2015). In addition, I translated two notable cook books into Finnish (Sausages by Paul Gayler and Pig by Johnnie Mountain”). Between 2018 and 2021, I transcreated five innovative children's books into Finnish (https://www.mymagicstory.com/fi). Each book is different, and each unique story is based on a child's name or the numbers of a child's birthdate. Some books deal with sustainable development and environmental awareness.

In addition to translating, editing and reviewing, I perform many LQAs, evaluate entry texts for new talents and write linguistic guidelines. I have also worked as a Language Lead for a various large international companies.
