English to Spanish: Informed Consent and Patient Information
Source text - English Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) affects approximately 200,000 people every year. The resulting pain can be so severe that it impairs a person’s ability to perform even the simplest daily activities. There are a number of FDA-approved treatments for PHN. Even though these drugs have been reported to be effective, many PHN patients feel that one of these drugs by itself is not enough to control the pain. Oftentimes patients need to take several drugs and therapies to treat their PHN. Furthermore, some of these drugs have undesirable side effects.
X is a seizure-reducing drug whose characteristics during animal and human testing have shown a potential to reduce postherpetic neuralgia pain. Currently other antiepileptic or antiseizure drugs are being used more often to treat pain. Even though the mechanism of antiseizure drugs to treat pain is not fully understood, other research studies have shown promise in the use of these drugs to treat pain. Based on this, it is thought that X may be useful in reducing PHN-related pain, which is why this study is being performed.
Translation - English The position of a fixed array is given by its orientation and its tilt angle, as shown in Figure 6. To get the highest annual total insolation over a fixed PV array, tilt in degrees must be equal to the site’s latitude, and orientation must be true South. In some cases, it is advisable to select an tilt different from the site’s latitude for insolation over the array to better match the project’s energy demand. Generally, the tilt angle should not be less than 10 degrees to prevent dust build-up on the surface. For orientation purposes, magnetic South from a compass may be used. There might be a slight difference between magnetic South and true South due to the site’s magnetic declination. As a general rule, this difference is not significant unless it exceeds about 15 degrees. In Latin America, this only occurs in Brazil’s most Eastern part. There, PV arrays must be oriented about 20 degrees to the West of the magnetic South.

Medical Translation Experience:
For the past 15 years, I have attended dozens of medical conferences and CME courses as an interpreter in fields such as oncology, gynecology, plastic surgery, cardiology, orthopedics, pediatrics, dermatology, general surgery. All the terminology learned during my interaction with doctors at these events and from poring over journals, medical books and articles in preparation for simultaneous interpretation has been transferred to my written translation work.
I have interpreted during a robot-assisted heart surgery for an international team of surgeons working together.
I have translated numerous clinical trial protocols and informed consents, and documents required for Joint Commission accreditation.
Other Technical Translation Experience:
As a simultaneous interpreter, I have had an opportunity to see first-hand many of the technical and industrial processes that come up in written translation. I have attended and interpreted training courses on diecasting, hydraulics, water treatment, leadership, lean manufacturing, team development, performance reviews, six sigma, hydroponics, cattle breeding, dairy operations, ISO certification and auditing, finance, environmental engineering, maintenance, quality, windpower, food processing, foodservice, chemistry, machining, physics, international aid, among other technical fields.
I have served as an interpreter at facilities that manufacture a wide range of products, such as nails, staples, cell phones, garage door openers, aluminum parts for the automotive industry, computers, electronic components, remote controls, smoke detectors, farming implements, wind turbine blades, satellite receivers, paper, cement, ceramic tile.
Again, all the terminology and experience acquired during these direct contacts with people working in these industries has been transferred to my written translation work.
Some of my most famous interpretation clients include Steven Covey (author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, among other books), Patch Adams (world-renowned doctor/clown), Richard Schonberger (who coined the phrase "world-class manufacturing"), Joel Barker (who developed the concept of paradigms), the family of the late Anthony Quinn, the family of NBA player Eduardo Nájera, Stanton Friedman, nuclear physicist and ufologist, Jonas Ridderstrale, co-author of the bestseller "Funky Business", and Dr. Barry Sears, the developer of The Zone diet.
Some of my interpretation/translation clients include:
General Electric, Dana Corporation, The Chamberlain Group, ABS Global, USAID, Winrock International, Clean Energy Group, Winrock International, Ecosystems Services Unit, Commission for Environmental Cooperation, International Hospital Corporation, Bristol Myers, Honeywell, Invensys, Solectron, Stanley Bostitch, Wingfoot, Philips Machinefabrieken, Buhler
