Hi!
An organization has just contacted me. They are going to make an important event (give some awards) and have requested me for interpreting, but also want a rebate. Is it Ok to do it, but asking for some advertising in exchange? Perhaps my name in the brochure or something? How can I ask for it?
Regards
Edwal

There is no reason for a rebate without reason..

Just get it in writing (a contract with specific services and deadlines) and make sure that the quality of any services you may receive in exchange for interpreting is up to scratch. Remember, once you've "paid" them with your time, there is no way for you to be reimbursed!
In my unfortunate experience, this type of exchange of services turned out to be a disaster!
HTH and good luck!
Sara

Exactly...and then compare the discount you're being asked for with the potential benefit any sort of publicity related with this event could have for you.
One way of approximating the potential value of this is to estimate how much business you can generate with the people present at that event, multiplied by the probability that this is actually going to happen.
IOW: if you don't think you'll be able to make money out of that opportunity, forget the discount.
HTH, Ralf
