Hi all
I have been in the business for some time now and I have never been like now before. The business is down for some time, it is understandable during the summer holidays, however it still continues and I am really worried that I may have to leave the business and try to find another job to pay for my expenses. I usually get translation and interpreting assignments every day and some times it was really too much for me but it suddenly slows down and now comes to null. It is worth mentioning that I have many clients and none of them raised any issues with my professional service.
Any advise please

Details, please, on your Kurdish - English capabilities. Sep 10, 2014

Greetings... zur ruzh bashe...

If you could provide some details about your background and fluency in Kurdish (including familiarity with which of the major regional Kurdish dialects), I would be pleased to refer you onward -- as a professional courtesy to all parties (or "sedaqat" in the Arabic) -- to some of the (apparently very few) Kurdish - Arabic - English professional practitioners who are based in UK. One of them may be able to become your advisor and mentor in establishing and growing your own business.

Several are based in or near the London metro area and work as on-site interpreters in courts, social services, and /or NHS treatment clinics.

If you could also provide your CV or resume to me, that would enable me to refer you to some of the fairly-frequent requests for Kurdish - English translation services I receive or discover online. My direct e-mail address is ( shfranke [at] hotmail [dot] com ).

Insure your CV or resume includes coverage of these items:

[1] Your fluency with which of the regional dialect[s] of Kurdish [i.e. Bahdini Kurmanci, Sorany, Faelli, Zazawi]

[2] Your familiarity with which subject areas / industries / professions / medical specialties / engineering fields / business, commercial, advertising or marketing fields, social sciences, or other practices areas, and

[3] Whether your PC or laptop has bidirectional language support installed to enable you to do word-processing / typing in both Kurdish alphabets: the LTR "latinized" alphabet or the RTL cursive "Persianized" alphabet (sometimes erroneously called Arabized").

[Glad to advise on how find and install that language support; that is especially easy if the OS of your PC or laptop is MS Windows XP or higher.]

Hope this helps. Today is Wednesday, September 10, 2014.

Regards,

Stephen H. Franke

Improve your profile, first of all Sep 11, 2014

1. Do you have any translation qualifications?
2. What qualifies you to be an interpreter? A DPSI diploma? An MA in interpreting? Or simply being able to speak two languages?
3. Are you a member of any professional associations?
4. Do you have a website?
5. Do you do any marketing or networking?

Marketing #2 Sep 11, 2014

You've clearly been lucky to some extent, but now you need to spend some time doing what every freelancer, in fact every business, needs to do: marketing.

Even if you aren't using this site to look for clients, your profile needs to be solid and attractive. Networking is the way to go nowadays so ProZ.com, LinkedIn etc are places to forge a strong presence.

Maybe that long run of work has made you complacent, but that's easily rectified. After all, you have time to spen

It's not about capabilities Sep 11, 2014

If you were busy all the time before you must be a good translator and interpreter. Where do you live? It might be due to the situation in your country or related tot he situation in some counties.

Hey,

You can get the business up by applying good strategy in the marketing area as you said, you are good in the work but in the off season, you didn't have good amount of work. So I just suggest you can get the proper marketing of your business and deliver the work in the effective way.

Market situation as usual... Sep 11, 2014

At least in my area of business (English & German into Spanish, technical translation), the market is as busy as ever.

I also agree with the colleagues: the problem might lie on the side of marketing and proving your abilities to potential customers.

The Kurds are confronted with worsening conflicts in all the various countries where they live, so that fact may well be affecting the demand for your services.

Translation demand is strictly language specific. Sep 11, 2014

Sometimes there may be demand for Spanish to English and no demand at all, for a while, for Swahili to English--especially in the US. Just as an example.
