Book translators: how do they find clients?

Hi there. I am a book translator from Russia and here I know all publishing houses employing translators of books from English into Russian. I wonder does any publishing house or may be somebody else outside of Russia is doing the same and how they can be found?

Hello Yelena,

I would contact the authors directly. In turn, they might refer you to the publisher (or specifically to a subsidiary rights director).

In the end, you need to make sure you obtain the rights to the translation, even if the rights to publish are retained by the original publishing house.

Once you've found an interested publisher of the translation, you might have to refer this party to the original publisher so the two can negotiate the publ... See more

They have a list of book publishers that might prove useful to you.
