I use Windows 2000 Pro, have installed IE6.
Now IE6 doesn´t work anymore, I have no icon, no .exe and my dictionaries that open only with IE don´t open.
IE appears in Add/Remove without size of MBs.
Clicking Change/Remove gives only the message "repair". Doing that, the message appears "IE could not be repaired. Run setup again".
Running setup again the message appears " the most recent version of all items are already installed. Exit setup"

Choosing reinstall doesn´t change anything.
And I´m at square 1.
I tried MS Faqs, Knowledge Base, nothing helps.
I do not use IE as a browser, using Netscape, but IE is important for some o9f my dictionaries.
If anybody has an idea, pleeeze Help!!

Have you looked via:
Start - Find - Files or Folders
Then type "Internet" (no quotes), then looked in the folders that are found named
"Internet Explorer" for the exe file?
It should still be in your computer somewhere. The uninstalling you mentioned is a dead end, don't worry about that.
Another possibility is to download Internet Exporer 6 from Microsoft (I think that's where I found it for free) and just install it. | | | The exe file... | May 11, 2004 |
The exe file is named iexplore.exe.
Mine's gone, too, but fortunately, I know how I did it: I played around with the "Program access & defaults" tool that is in the Windows Start menu.
Anyway, whenever I do need MSIE (I use Opera as my default browser), I just enter "iexplore" in the Start|Run box and hit Return. | |

Thanx for the help. I found the IE.exe and the browser works.
But there is something lacking in the IE installation, because my programms, inkl. trados, even access and some dictionaries don´t work, only the message appears " runs with IE5 or higher".
Repair IE doesn´t work, message: can´t be repaired, run setup again.
Running setup, message appears: all items are installed, quit setup.
I´m moving in a circle, don´t know what to do.

Barbara, have you tried setting Program Access & Defaults to "Microsoft Windows"? That should do the trick.
