Thank you, that would be good, as you see, it is confusing currently.
Katalin, you ask about an asker's option to edit category and pair on their own questions. This has not been forgotten, but it has not yet been implemented.
Thanks, it would be logical to allow this.
Another thing to consider is whether it is really a good idea to keep the category settings (Broad field and Specific field) from the previous question to the next one, when asking KudoZ questions.
What I mean is the selection from the drop-down lists seems to be saved when asking a KudoZ question, so next time (even if it is months later), when the same person opens the Ask question screen, those field settings are the same as before.
I have seen in many cases that the category was incorrect, because the asker did not change the previously used settings.
My suggestion would be NOT to save the category settings, but force the asker to set them, EXCEPT when someone is using the "Ask another question" option that shows up right after submitting a question.
The logic behind this is that if someone is asking a series of questions, they are likely to be from the same text/job, therefore the categories are likely to be the same, so it makes sense to save the settings and carry them over.
However, when opening the Ask question page from the menu, having the previous settings (sometimes from long time ago) in the category fields is not helpful, it could be detrimental.
I suspect there is a way to track how the user arrives to the Ask question page (from another question, or from the menu), and handle the category fields accordingly. Is this feasible?

Hi Katalin,
When asking a KudoZ question, there is the option to save settings for future questions, which was implemented by request, to allow askers who ask questions typically in a given pair or area to do so quickly without having to set certain information each time around. When asking a KudoZ question, there is the option to save settings for future questions, which was implemented by request, to allow askers who ask questions typically in a given pair or area to do so quickly without having to set certain information each time around. One also has the option to proceed through the form without saving the settings (or overwriting past settings by using the save settings option). A similar feature is available in the job posting form, for the same reason. I would be in favor of allowing the asker to choose when to save or not save their question settings. If questions where these fields are incorrect due to old settings are common (I have no hard data to back this up at the moment), maybe highlighting that saved settings are present when an asker returns to the form might be helpful.
Best regards,

It seems that if I clicked once the "save settings" button, the categories are stuck, even if next time I hit the other button. The language pair gets cleared, though.
But I am not sure, so I will test it again and post after.

As I said in my previous post, the question categories seem to be stuck for me when asking KudoZ questions, so I did some testing:
Here is what I did:
I posted a question with the following settings:
Language pair: Zulu -> Volapuk
Broad field: Tech/Engineering
Specific field: Automotive / cars & Trucks
Write-in: Transmission
Language preferred for answer explanations: English
I clicked "Next step (and save settings for future question... See more As I said in my previous post, the question categories seem to be stuck for me when asking KudoZ questions, so I did some testing:

I posted a question with the following settings:

Language preferred for answer explanations: English
I clicked "Next step (and save settings for future questions)".
Then, I sent the question.
From the confirmation page I clicked "To ask another question: click here".
The ask form came back, with the following settings:
Language pair: Select (so, this setting was not saved, and got emptied)
Broad field: Tech/Engineering
Specific field: Automotive / cars & Trucks
Write-in: (empty, this setting was not saved, and got emptied)
Language preferred for answer explanations: English
Next, I filled in the form again, with the following settings:
Language pair: Zulu -> Volapuk
Broad field: Science
Specific field: Botany
Write-in: Taxonomy
Language preferred for answer explanations: Zulu
I clicked "Next step". (Without the saving option)
Then, I sent the question.
From the confirmation page I clicked "To ask another question: click here".
The ask form came back, with the following settings:
Language pair: Select (so, this setting was not saved, and got emptied)
Broad field: Science (so, the last setting was saved, even though I did not choose to save)
Specific field: Automotive / cars & Trucks (this is the setting from 2 questions ago!!!)
Write-in: (empty, this setting was not saved, and got emptied)
Language preferred for answer explanations: Any (so this was not saved, and got set back to the default)
At this point I went to the main menu and selected "Ask question" from the "Terminology" pull-down menu.
The ask form displayed, with the following settings:
Language pair: Select (so, this setting was not saved, and got emptied)
Broad field: Tech/Engineering (this is the setting from 2 questions ago!!!)
Specific field: Automotive / cars & Trucks (this is the setting from 2 questions ago!!!)
Write-in: (empty, this setting was not saved, and got emptied)
Language preferred for answer explanations: Any (so this was not saved, and got set back to the default)
I stopped the testing at this point.
It seems to me the behavior is inconsistent and incorrect.
Jared, can you test and see why this is happening?
Katalin
P.S: I squashed the test questions right away, but you can see them anyway, if needed.

Hello Katalin,
Sorry to intrude here but I just tested what you describe and I am afraid I was able to reproduce it exactly as you post it.
Thanks for taking the time to test this. I am requesting to have it fixed and I will let you know as soon as I have any news.
Regards,

Hi Katalin,
The KudoZ question form has been adjusted and information should be saved more consistently now. Would you mind giving it a try and letting me know if it works OK for you now?
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
