Hello. I just installed Alexandria dictionaries on my PHPBB forum and I wonder if people would like to have something similar on ProZ forums. It's quite simple and it doesn't slow down the forum. It's quite simple and it doesn't slow down the forum. The site owner simply has to install four lines of Javascript code on each forum's configuration page and when people double-click on any word ,while reading a post, a popup window appears with the definition, some synonyms and related expressions.
An example? Just go to http://www.quebec-japon.com/Multifrancophone/viewtopic.php?t=45 and double-click on any word of the Welcome message. You will see the definition in French and, as I said, some synonyms and expressions. If you want to see the definition, let's say, in German, just go to the upper right corner of the popup window, click on the icon just besides (on the left side) of the question mark, choose your target language, close the window and start using the French-German dictionnary (or whatever) to read the forum.
The code is available at the following address (the page is in French, but the code itself, in the first yellow frame, is in English): http://www.memodata.com/2004/fr/alexandria/install.shtml.
I really think that ProZ members would like to use this multilingual dictionnary when they read forums which are not in their mother tongue. Maybe you can give it a try Henry?

Note : There's only one line (indeed two letters of code) to modify if you need to change the source language). For example, en (for English) will become fr for French, es for Spanish, and so on (I don't know all the codes but they are not difficult to guess).
The line to change ->
English :
src="http://www.memodata.com/2004/en/js/alexandria.wm.en.js">
French :
src="http://www.memodata.com/2004/fr/js/alexandria.wm.fr.js">
and so on...

No need to install anything. Can translate into 19 languages pair + dictionary + encyclopaedia and other things like search machines.
Opera 7.54 (http://www.opera.com/)

I tried it. As expected: poor quality machine translation. What I'm talking about here is a free link, in a popup window, to good quality dictionaries. It's free for Webmasters (with limited functions) because it becomes free pub for the product. With the real thing (about 40 euros) you can use it in any application (MS Office and so on) and you can add you own lists of technical words).

You're right, it seems to be good. But how you think it can work simultaneously with different languages? You can define only a "pair" with this JavaScript. I think it is possible to implement it into Opera (or firefox).
It is not better Babylon for this?
Wordfinder and iFinger are naturally better, but you have to pay for it

You don't define a pair, just the source. The target is selected by the user in the popup window. So you put the code, with a different letter (en, fr, es, it, and so on), in each forum's configuration file. There seem to be a way to insert a multilingual code for the source too, but maybe it's only for the full version, I don't know (or maybe for the version used on the user's computer, as I said above, not for the Website version).

Alain
