I wonder if it might be possible to have a "back to top" button on the Kudoz and forum pages (like the ones on the Websters online dictionary), so that you don't have to scroll all the way back up on pages with lots of answers and comments?

Try 'Pos1' on your keyboard Nov 26, 2005

Hi Fiona,
If you're using a Windows machine, the Pos1 key should do just that (not sure whether it has a different label on an English keyboard, for example).

HTH, Ralf

Control+Home Nov 26, 2005

Control+Home will take you to the top of the page and Control+End will take you to the bottom of it.
Just tried it. It works on KudoZ question pages in both v3 and Beta formats.

Thanks (Do I feel dumb!) Nov 26, 2005

It would quite simply never have occurred to me to try using the keyboard. Duh! Now that I've played around with it, I've found that the "Page up" and "Page down" keys also take you to the top and bottom of the page respectively. I can't find the "pos 1" key, though - it's probably called something different on my (Portuguese)keyboard.

Thanks a million.
Fiona.

Page Up & Page Down not quite so efficient Nov 26, 2005

Page Up and Page Down will take you to the top and bottom of a short page in one keystroke, but for a longer page (say a forum page with 15 posts), you'll need to press the key more than once (this page currently requires two keystrokes).
Ctrl+Home & Ctrl+End will take you all the way, no matter how long the page is.

Home, End Nov 26, 2005

Pos1 is a German label for the Home key. Home takes you to the beginning of the page, End to the end (no need to press Ctrl). There are more shortcuts, if you are interested. For example Backspace (Back), Alt+Home (Homepage), etc.

That was the one I was looking for... Nov 27, 2005

Pos1 is a German label for the Home key. Home takes you to the beginning of the page, End to the end (no need to press Ctrl).

Thanks, Hynek!

You're right, Jack. Nov 27, 2005

I tested out both ways on the Websters online dictionary where the pages seem to go on for ever and you're right. Page up/down and home/end on their own take you part of the way, whereas ctrl+home/ctrl+end take you all the way to the top or bottom.
By the way, my Portuguese keyboard has "home" for "pos 1".
Thanks again, all.

Omit ctrl Nov 28, 2005

No need to hit Ctrl + Home or Ctrl + End: just Ctrl or End.

BACK TO TOPic 20399 Dec 1, 2005

... but it sometimes is nice being able to get back to the top of a page without having to take your hand off the mouse (especially at those times when you find yourself browsing through various arenas of an evening, holding your chin in your free hand...)
