I may be mistaken but does the site have a new logo? (see top, left-hand corner of the following link)

oh, no... Feb 17, 2007

There was recently some criticism of the original logo, so perhaps there has been an attempt to redesign it.

But I have to say that I'm not thrilled with the new one. Is that an automobile tire rolling away off to the left? Or has the site changed its name to OProZ?!

Will have to wait for confirmation, however if this IS the new logo it would be a little surprising given the consultation that was mentioned would take place - http://www.proz.com/topic/65108 (page 3) - but I could well be jumping the gun or have missed something.

Let's see what the official response is ......

More than that, Pat Feb 17, 2007

I count two new ones:

I don't know why it needs to be changed, but if so, then surely consistency is vital?

I have a great emoticon of someone holding a book and shifting their eyes from left to right all the time.

Maybe Henry should have a competition to design a new logo. Apart from the DTP-ers amongst us, I know at least one member who is a font designer.

a logo for each group? Feb 17, 2007

Now I'm really confused... Does each group (linguists, corporate members, and employers) have a distinct logo?

I agree with Chris that consistency is important. The design style of a web site is its face and personality--each of those pages is so different, it feels like you are somewhere that isn't ProZ!

We've now had a "translation contest," so why not a "design contest"? (On second thought, the designers would probably appreciate being paid for their work...)

Multiplying logos... Feb 17, 2007

So we now have an "Oproz.com" logo and a "Prozi.com" logo, to accompany our "Proz-with-the-sinister-intersecting-lines.com" logo?

Is this the start of a new fad? Can we expect an entirely different logo on each section of the website now? Can we each make up our own logo, and use that?

Oh fun and games...

not only a new logo Feb 17, 2007

I'm glad you mention it. I've been worried about it for a while but never got round to opening a new forum... not quite true, I actually did, but when I finished typing, I clicked the wrong key and lost everything I'd written...

Anyway, to me it looks not only like a change of logo, but like a change of philosophy. Just look again: it's not 'The Translators workplace' anymore, but 'The Translation workplace'. Henry announced new memberships, especially for agencies. OK. But paying a

Anyway, to me it looks not only like a change of logo, but like a change of philosophy. Just look again: it's not 'The Translators workplace' anymore, but 'The Translation workplace'. Henry announced new memberships, especially for agencies. OK. But paying agencies also have access to new tools to look for translators. I tried to use them, no way, except by creating a false profile as an outsourcer, which I didn't want to.

Well, I like to control how one can get to my CV. Remember, for example, how many of us resented the WWA when it appeared, so it was decided that it would not be compulsory, only 'encouraged'. How do we know now that the encouraged fields are not taken into account in the order the CVs are shown to the outsourcers? All right, maybe they aren't, but I just hate it not to be able to check.

Up to now, I've been thankful to ProZ, the directory as it is (was?) has proven an excellent marketing tool for me and I would very much like it to stay like that.

You mention a consultation about the logo, Lawyer-Linguist. but I fear it's much more than the logo that's been changed without any consultation. I might well be paranoid, but just now I feel I'm being cheated.

I hope all this will be satisfactorily clarified soon.

There had been a poll, in december or january Feb 17, 2007

One had to choose between two logos. I got notice of it when checking my spam filter (like for most other automatic messages from proz).

It take it it is what has been selected.

The date of the forum posting I referred to above was 3 February (so apparently after the poll you mention). On page 3 of that posting there was mention of a consultation process, so something doesn't quite add up.

Not that I necessarily think consultation would work, or that I'd even participate, however the fact remains it was promised, so I guess I'm more curious than anything else as to what happened (or what I missed after 3 February) if this indeed is (one of) the new logo(s).

Dear marie-christine,

checking the directory through the outsourcer tool looks like a bit more advanced. You can give conditions (like years of experience) and exclude the ones who did not answer anything from the listing you get out of the directory.

I don't see the WWA as being taken into account but it surely dismiss translators not entering a certain minimum of information.

The poll had been at around the turn of the year. I didn't keep the message so I can't say when. There was a link in a mail and you could tell which one you liked best. I remember it because I didn't like the other one.

As far as I understood, the whole site will be updated that way.

Greetings All,

Thank you all for your comments regarding the logo suggestions you have seen. Please continue to provide your feedback.

First, the logo suggestions in question are experiments that we have placed on a very limited number of pages with the purpose of seeing how “it looks on the page” and the goal of generating dialog from those who have seen them.

Please note that as of today, ProZ.com has only one official logo, the one presented on the home page of the site. Again, no final decision has been made to officially change the logo at this time.

As background, we are going down the path of a logo redesign to make the site and brand more attractive to outsourcers, with the purpose of bringing more work to the community.

I have been working with a small design firm and feedback from outsourcers and some members of the community including the moderators. Comment and inclusion from the community is an important part of this redesign process.

The version with the 3 circles-icon (representing the three user segments of our site: language professionals, language companies and end clients interacting and collaborating together in one unified community) was one that was favored by outsourcers in a survey we ran earlier this year. However, feedback from the community members who took the same survey indicated that we should make revisions.

Those revisions are still in process. My plan is to present the revised options that reflect those initial comments to the community members and outsourcers who are interested in commenting and helping us select the new logo for ProZ.com.

Again, thank you for your comments. Please let me know if you have any questions and please feel free to contact me directly at mike at proz dot com.

Have a great weekend.

Best,

Mike
