Localize profiles in mother languages, etc. (D)

Dear Colleagues,



What would your opinion be on the usefulness of having our profiles localised in, let us say, our mother tongues? That is, keep the original profile in English but also providing visitors with the option of accessing a profile\'s localised version by the tip of a click. And if your answer is Yes, then is this possible, from a technical point of view?

With a wee bit of programming ProZ could detect the language of the surfer\'s browser and redirect to a page with the same language, defaulting to English if the page has not been translated into the language in question.



The problem is to convince Henry to implement it. The more ProZ members that say \"YES, PLEASE!\" the greater the chance it will happen.

My solution is to divide your CV into two columns Feb 20, 2003

I have divided my CV into two columns and provided information in two languages in pdf format. Localised! It can also serve two other purposes: informing the client that I can convert documents into pdf format, and providing a sample translation!

It would be useful indeed, but rather than guessing the desired language it could be implemented to display the default English page and providing a number of buttons (or tabs, options or other navigation system) so that the reader can choose the preferred language.



Of course the owner of the profile has the burden of creating several profiles, one for each working language.

I won\'t write \"Yes, please!\", because ProZ does detect the language and redirects to the \"localised\" version of the site, but only, when you have no cookie on your computer for logging in. When you\'re logged in, the site is displayed in the language, that you have selected.

The problem is the localization of the site, but there are other threads about it.



Replying to the initial posting of this topic:

In your profile you can write in every language you want to. My profile is in German and Polish, because I think, a potential customer would know German or Polish. (I translate only German Polish) You only have to past and copy a code for the language.

The other elements of the profile page are set up by ProZ.com. To localise them will be a part of localisation of ProZ.com. Some of them are already tramslated, also into Romanian. This is from my profil site after selecting the language \"Romanian\":

I visited your ProZ page (by the way, your animated photo is delicious!), but I think what Andrei has in mind (and I, too) is a button that makes the same ProZ page appear just with the text in a different language, without having to program.
