Dear All,
I would like to ask you to spare 5 minutes of your time and complete an extra short questionnaire meant to probe what translators do when they are asked to translate a type document they have not translated before. Do you skip it or do you translate whatever you can put your hands on?

I would like to ask you to spare 5 minutes of your time and complete an extra short questionnaire meant to probe what translators do when they are asked to translate a type document they have not translated before. Do you skip it or do you translate whatever you can put your hands on?
The questionnaire is anonymous and will serve as an opening point in my PhD research, which is to test and analyse how translators working with CAT tools deal with exact, context and repetition matches: do they skim and accept them (fast thinking) or do they verify them properly (slow thinking)?
The questionnaire is available at this link: QUESTIONNAIRE
Thank you in advance.
Best wishes,

I found it hard to answer this double-barrelled question: "Do you prefer specific texts for translation (e.g. legal) and you reject those jobs which do not fall into this category?
This is because I do prefer certain types of text/client, but that doesn't mean I reject others. | |

This is because I do prefer certain types of text/client, but that doesn't mean I reject others.
I don't even consider taking jobs relating to chemistry, pharmaceuticals or patents, for example.
I think the question might be rephrased as two questions:
Do you prefer texts in certain subject areas?

your idea of what is fast or slow thinking doesn't sound like the way of thinking of a practising professional translator;
what you are talking about sounds to me more like fast or slow keyboard bashing which I wouldn't hurry too much to equate with thinking;
for someone specialising in manipulating words, you have strange choices of words.
the results of what you call "fast thinking" are often good reading material when you are bored and need something funny to read ...

Dear All,
thank you for your answers.
As I have mentioned before, the questionairre is to measure a tendency, not to probe the actual process. Therefore, the questions had to be quite general.
Thank you once again for your effort.
Best wishes,
